A skilled and practiced consultant (vs a salesperson) will ask questions and seek to comprehend your abilities and experience. This is useful for establishing your starting point for training. With a bit of live experience or some accreditation, it may be that your starting point of study is different from a beginner. Starting with a foundation course first can be the best way to get up and running on your IT program, depending on your current skill level.

The most renowned of all the CompTIA accreditations are without doubt the 'A+' & 'Network+'. Jointly they constitute the basis of many career-paths in IT, and as a result are frontrunners in their field. 'A+' training teaches all the basics of PC maintenance, fault-finding & repair; including installation, security and support. Additionally, the 'A+' deals with certain relationship-building skill-sets to help you communicate better with others. The Network+ takes the subject further, by building in a more in-depth understanding of how networks function and connect with each other. The vital matter of Security is introduced, and Wireless technologies are spoken about at a basic level. 'CompTIA' 'A+' & Network+ provide a solid base for a systems career in I.T., and also a great basis for other more more senior certification programs.

In 2009 both programs under-went up-grades, and new exams are now in existence for them both. The earlier 'A+' (version 2006-2007) examinations which were categorised using the 600 prefix are now being phased out worldwide during 2010. In the UK, they discontinue on 31st August 2010. As '2009' examinations (version 700) are currently available at test centres across the country, these newer study programs would be a more sensible preference for anyone just starting out. 'A+' '09 is currently presented as '220-701' 'CompTIA' 'A+' Essentials & 220-702 'CompTIA' 'A+' Practical Application. The principle changes were a whole re-structuring of the preceding four exams in to just two exams, and the inclusion of some coverage on more recent technologies. Even though the old A+ had 4 examinations within the complete program, only two were necessary to get the certification. Today the marketplace requires professionals with know-how that was in all of the previous exams. Students will learn that information from the 2 '2009' compulsory A+ programs. CompTIA also have released the BR/003 bridging exam, for people qualified in the '600' exams who want to up-date to the current '700' examinations. This will probably necessitate additional study, although less so if you covered all of the earlier exams, as opposed to just the minimum two. The extra topics will undoubtedly necessitate some extra study.

Anyone coming into I.T. will certainly benefit from programs & certifications produced by 'CompTIA'. Wherever a student decides to build a career in I.T., there are CompTIA certifications that will strengthen their skills. Individuals who are specifically thinking about Networking, Support, Systems, Security, Communications & Servers are especially well served.
